Bridge replacement to impact Rock Island service

The Beverly Branch of Metra’s Rock Island Line will be shut down the weekend of Aug. 22-24 for the replacement of the Morgan Street Bridge in Chicago. Service is expected to be restored in time for the rush hour on Monday, Aug. 25.

Service on the Beverly Branch will be shut down on Friday evening, with outbound Train 631 (the 6:40 p.m. departure from Chicago) and inbound Train 632 (the 5:35 p.m. departure from Joliet) as the last trains to serve Beverly Branch stations. Following the closure, inbound Trains 514, 516, and 518 and outbound Trains 511, 513, 515, and 517 will make additional stops at the Gresham, 95th Street /Longwood and 103rd Street /Washington Heights stations on the Rock Island mainline. Weekend trains also will make additional stops at Gresham, 95th Street /Longwood and 103rd Street/Washington Heights.

Service on the Beverly Branch is scheduled to resume Monday morning, Aug. 25 with Train 600. For specific information about the Rock Island Line schedule during the outage, click here

The Morgan Street Bridge, near 89th Street, is a steel and timber bridge dating from 1973.
